Together, we review your imaging and relate it to your symptoms, examination, medical history and previous treatments. I want to understand what is happening and how it affects your life.
Assess the most appropriate treatment
I explain the surgical and non-surgical options relevant to your case. We consider what each can offer, its risks and limitations, alongside your circumstances and goals.
Explain every step ahead
We clarify what comes next: further assessment, starting or adjusting treatment, follow-up or preparing for an operation. If surgery is needed, we discuss preparation, recovery and subsequent reviews.
Understanding the proposal is part of your care.
I want you to understand what we aim to improve, the alternatives and what we can expect from each option. When surgery is appropriate, we discuss its purpose, risks and limitations, and the steps involved in recovery. When it is not, we clarify how to continue with treatment or follow-up.
Prepare for a useful consultation.
Bring your reports and, if possible, the full MRI, CT or X-ray images, with access to the viewer or on the media provided by your centre. Include your current medication, previous operations and treatments you have tried. Think about your main concerns and the activities you would like to return to.
